Media production is one of our pillars for sharing indigenous culture, chosen because of the wide reach possible through media. One of the first media productions our organization supported was "Atayal Trail," produced by MeGa Production Studios in 2003. After partnering with Producers and Directors, Aaron Hosé and Chris Bremer, our organization supported the production of "Time and Music in a Disappearing World (2006)" and "Voices In The Clouds (2009)." The latter would end up being screened in film festivals in many countries around the world and winning several prestigious awards. These formative experiences inspired us to support indigenous media projects through our Indigenous Bridges Program to ensure indigenous culture and wisdom are passed along to a wider audience.

Since then, we have produced and supported other indigenous media projects. Our TapRoot International Cultural Education Project included an indigenous film festival and a workshop between indigenous Maori media students from AUT and students from Taiwan focusing on international indigenous media cooperation. If you have any questions or comments about the Media Cooperation projects we support, please contact us at this e-mail address.

VOICES IN THE CLOUDS

Voices In The Clouds is an internationally-award-winning documentary film, following Tony Coolidge's journey of discovery of his mother's indigenous roots. His discovery reveals a surprising, rich, colorful culture, which is in danger of disappearing. This discovery and embracing of cultural heritage changes Tony's life. This film was screened in film festivals around the world and took top international honors at the Nepal International Indigenous Film Festival and the Wairoa International Indigenous Film Festival (New Zealand) and won other awards and honorable mentions.

TAPROOT INTERNATIONAL CULTURAL EXCHANGE PROJECT

Taproot International Cultural Exchange Program

In 2013, our organization created the first of a series of international cultural exchange projects between Austronesian tribes. Maori media students from Auckland, New Zealand were hosted in Taiwan. The ambitious project started out in Chaoyang University of Technology in Taichung, Taiwan with a conference on International Indigenous Media Cooperation Opportunities and a workshop on media cooperation. The project also hosted the Austronesian Film Festival in Taitung and Hualien, Taiwan. The Maori media students from AUT were given 2 weeks of experiences and connections in Taiwan that could facilitate future cooperation on international indigenous media projects.

DEWEY-KINCAID TAIWAN TOUR

Dewey-Kincaid Taiwan Tour

ATAYAL organization's Cultural Ambassador to North America, Chad Yen, was an organizer and facilitator for the Taiwan Tour of Myron Dewey and Pat Kincaid in May 2018. The Taiwan Tour was a small part of the pair's Asian tour. On May 30, the well-known Native American filmmakers made a stop at National Cheng Kung University in Tainan City, Taiwan. The indigenous college students were treated to a film screening and a Q & A session. It was a unique cultural exchange opportunity that brought together indigenous people from both sides of the Pacific.
