EDUCATION EXCHANGE

Education exchange is one of our pillars for sharing indigenous culture, which is effective because young people develops beliefs and value systems during their formative years. Tony Coolidge resides in Taiwan and the USA, spending considerable time researching indigenous culture and building connections. Naturally, he gives lectures to universities, schools, and civic groups about Taiwan's indigenous cultures. With many academics studying indigenous culture, language, and social issues in Taiwan, our organization supports their research by offering lectures or connecting them with academic and indigenous resources in Taiwan. We make a difference for their research, because their research clarifies global understanding of indigenous culture. Finally, indigenous groups and individuals have increased interest in travel to Taiwan for academic reasons. When they reach out to our organization to assist them, we have happily connected them to helpful resources. Our Indigenous Bridges Program support education exchange opportunities to ensure indigenous culture and wisdom are passed along to our youth.

INDIGENOUS TEACHERS EXCHANGE

Indigenous Lectures in Taiwan

The ATAYAL organization is proud to recognize the efforts of Chad Yen, Cultural Ambassador for North America, to develop and organize an indigenous teachers exchange program that will bring Native American teachers overseas to teach English and Native American culture to indigenous students. With Mr. Yen's close connections with Native American communities, he is making great progress. Once the project is organized, it will be publicly announced, and it will be supported by the Indigenous Bridges Program, where our ICRs could identify and recruit Native American teacher ambassador candidates.

INDIGENOUS LECTURES

Indigenous Lectures in Taiwan

Since 2010, Tony Coolidge has been providing lectures on Taiwan's indigenous cultures to Taiwanese and foreign students in schools and universities around Taiwan. It is not surprising that foreign students visiting Taiwan know little to nothing about Taiwan's indigenous groups. However, Taiwanese students also have a limited knowledge about the indigenous culture of their island. Lectures have been provided to students, educators and staff at National Cheng Chi University (NCCU), National Dong Hwa University (NDHU), National Changhua University of Education (NQU), National Quemoy University (NQU), Indigenous Peoples Cultural Foundation (IPCF) and many other places. INDIGENOUS ACADEMIC STUDIES IN TAIWAN

The ATAYAL organization is often contacted by individuals and academic groups who travel to Taiwan to study indigenous culture and language. We have enjoyed the opportunity to provide educational lectures and to connect scholars with academic and indigenous resources in Taiwan to facilitate their work. On June 16, 2012 Tony Coolidge visited National Tsing Hua University in Hsinchu City, Taiwan to provide a lecture on Taiwan's indigenous culture to a group of linguistics students from the University of Southern California (USC). The indigenous college students were treated to a film screening of Voices In The Clouds, a Powerpoint presentation on Taiwan's indigenous cultures, and a Q & A session. The goal was to provide background and context to the students to enhance their work documenting disappearing indigenous languages in Taiwan.

INDIGENOUS STUDENTS STUDYING IN THE USA

Indigenous Lectures in Taiwan

Our organization supports indigenous students who want to study in the USA. We are working on gathering educational resources, including scholarships and exchange opportunities for indigenous students. We are also developing our Indigenous Youth Ambassadors Program to develop leadership, and we hope to provide our participants with scholarships as well. TheBestSchools.org is a helpful guide to foreign students wishing to study in the USA. Also, check out this article, "What International Students Need to Know Before Returning in Fall"
